“Shey Phoksundo is my backyard. The silence up there is the point.”
I am from a Dolpo family and spent my school holidays walking between Dunai and the monasteries above Ringmo. Guiding started as translating for visiting researchers; now it is how I spend eight months of the year.
Dolpa punishes hurry. I keep groups small, build in acclimatisation days, and I will tell you honestly when a pass is not worth the risk that week.
